The Southern Cape Link Network has been extended further, by adding Echolink to the Still Bay Repeater thereby extending the network range, which now allows for broader coverage in areas previously difficult to reach.
Here's a breakdown of what this mean, focusing on the context of the Southern Cape Link Network:
• What is the "Southern Cape Link Network"?
This refers to a local amateur radio network within the Southern Cape Region. The network is a linked/bridged network of repeaters, links, nodes and technologies that provides amateur radio operators a convergence of platforms where users of various systems such as AllStar, IRLP, Echolink, DMR, SVXLink Reflectors, RF Simplex Links and Repeaters can seamlessly communicate across the country and around the world.
• What does "extended further" mean?
This suggests that the network's coverage area has been expanded, allowing for better Echolink access in more locations in the Southern Cape Area, South Africa and around the World.
• Benefits of extending a network?
Improved Coverage: Reach areas that were previously difficult to access. A further plus is that the Aasvoëlkop Repeater can now be linked via ZS1SB-L to the Still Bay Repeater. This means that both repeaters can now be active at the same time. (See note before connecting both repeaters!!)
Finally: A big thank you to all that contributed in extending the Southern Cape Link Network further. A special word of thanks to Dolf ZS1DRP for making this Echolink Node available for use on the Still Bay Repeater. Thank you also to Rassie ZS1RP for keeping an eye on the node from time to time. Together we will grow the Southern Cape Link Network to one of the biggest networks in the country but not only the that, also the most active network in South Africa. Something to be proud of by all radio amateurs that use the ZS-Link Network.
