Tuesday's will be DMR Radio activity day on the GRHub Network, Mossel Bay 

Well it is now "official".   Tuesday's will be DMR Radio Activity Day on the GRHub Network and around the World.  The ZS1I DMR Bridge will be connected to the GRHub Network at 09h00 SAST (07h00 UTC) on Tuesdays.  Connecting the bridge will allow Echolink, AllStar, Repeater- and 145.550 Mhz Simplex stations access to DMR and vice versa.

Erfenismaand word jaarliks van 1 tot 30 September gevier. Dit gee erkenning aan verskillende aspekte van Suid Afrikaanse kultuur en erfenis, beide tasbaar en nie-tasbaar. Ons vier ons unieke argitektoniese erfenis sowel as musiek, optredes, taal, die kos wat ons eet, sowel as ons herinneringe. Daar is die simboliek van saam brood breek, wat help om die gemeenskaplike menswees te deel. Ons nooi u na ‘n ontbyt - met die doel om gemeenskaplike doelwitte te identifiseer tussen die verskillende erfenis en bewaring instansies, sommige met aangrensende en oorvleuelende doelwitte.

Ons sal so 5 minute kans gee vir u om die aktiwiteite van die Eden  Radio Klub te kan bekendstel. Stuur ook asseblief vir my u telefoonnommer - ek wil graag 'n dokument saamstel met al die kontakdetails van die verskillende rolspelers.

Changes to the GRHub News Bulletins, Nets, Link Connections

Changes to Services Rendered by the GRHub Network and other Roll Players in Amateur Radio

I would like to draw the attention of new radio amateurs or first time visitors to the GRHub Network that the GRHub Network and many other roll players, to many to mention here render various services to the amateur radio community at large.  This will not be possible without the support om many individuals, clubs, Leagues, News Services etc.  Many thanks to all those that make this services available free of charge.

Please note that some of these services are being automatically announced on the GRHub Network from time to time but if you do not have the time to listen, HERE is a complete list of the services.

You are invited to join in on the fun.  Connect to  ZS1I-L via Echolink or 49355 AllStar Node or any of the other nodes connected to the GRHub Network. 

I made the following changes to the GRHub News Bulletin, Nets, Link Connections as listed below:

• Removed references to the "Lippeklap Net" which went QRT for the time being.  This is due to various aspects relating to Loadshedding.  I will in future again look at reviving the Lippeklap Net when the power issues is solved one way or the other.  Just a reminder that the GRHub Network is not effected in anyway by Loadshedding as it uses renewable energy and not Eskom Power.
  
• Changed the time to 20h00 relating to the Repeat Broadcast of the Pretoria Amateur Radio weekly bulletin on Monday evenings.
• Full time slot allocated to the ZLHUB DRGNZ Hub Network, New Zealand:  Transmission: 09h05 - 11h00 on Saturday mornings. 49355 AllStar Node and ZS1I-L Echolink nodes will be connected to the New Zealand Hub Network.
• Full time slot allocated to the VK6RX AllStar Hub Network, Australia:  Transmission: 09h05 - 11h00 on Saturday mornings.  49355 AllStar Node and ZS1I-L Echolink nodes will be connected to the Australia Hub Network.
• Several auto announcements removed that will be replaced by new announcements.  Soon to be implemented.  More on this later.

 Once again we had a very successful "Lippeklap" Net yesterday afternoon.  For once loadshedding did not cause regular "dropouts" for connected stations to the GRHub Network. There was also an increase in stations connecting to the Network.  The Network was active on the West Coast, South Coast, East Coast + Interior, Panbult, Kimberley, Richards Bay links to mention a few that I was aware of.   A big thank you to all those who make the Network what it is today.  For those not knowing the Network consists of the following:

New Amateur Radio slogan for the GRHub Network, Mossel Bay : Re Inactivity

 

Several radio amateurs have expressed their concern about the current inactivity/lull in amateur radio.  No there are activity but really at a low level and it seems that activity is slowly but surely fading.  The lull has been brought to the attention of radio amateurs via bulletins, on several repeaters and also amateur radio social media groups.  Despite this the decline continues.  If you really love amateur radio than this should be of great concern to you.  We need to up amateur radio activity!!

I have therefor decided to use several slogans to express concern in this regard.   Here is the first slogan and I request radio amateurs to use this slogan to draw the attention of other radio amateurs to the current inactivity/lull in amateur radio.  There is no copy writes to this slogan as I am the sole author of this slogan and I give permission  that it can be used in amateur radio.

It is the responsibility of every radio amateur to be an active radio operator and to create radio activities by utilizing any means possible.

Terugvoer "Lippeklap" Net Potgooi (Podcast) Sondag 12 Maart 2023 15h30

Soos reeds te kenne gegee is in die kennisgewing tov van Lippeklap vir Sondag 12 Maart 2023 het ons die week na 'n potgooi geluister.  Geen onderwerp was bespreek nie en was daar ook dan geen geselsie na die potgooi nie.  Dit wil voorkom of daar 'n verskeidenheid van redes is wat Lippeklap negatief beinvloed waarvan die grootste natuurlik beurtkrag (loadshedding) is.  Ek sal indringend ondersoek instel na die  redes en later 'n aankondiging plaas oor my bevindinge en moontlike veranderinge wat aangebring gaan word.

Nietemin ons het lekker geluister na die potgooi.

The Lippeklap Net did not take place yesterday afternoon due to severe thunderstorms in the Southern Cape and other areas of the country.  Heavy rain, intense lightning and even hail were reported.

The next "Lippeklap"  Net will take place on Sunday, 12 March 2023 at 15h30 SAST. Connect to ZS1I-L via Echolink or 49355 AllStar Node or any of the other nodes connected to the GRHub Network.

Eskom Loadshedding Solutions - DIY Solar Battery Power Supply: Christi ZS4CGR

As to alleviate Eskom's loadshedding several radio amateurs has decided to come up with alternative power supply units that will be used during loadshedding or any other time when there is a need to use such equipment.

Thanks to Christi ZS4CGR for sending images of his latest project in this regard.  Christi stays on a farm and from time to time he activates SOTA and HOTA sites.  He needed a Solar Battery Power Supply for these events and he came up with an ingenious way to host all the components for this project.  Look at the extra battery terminals that he invented.  This gives him the option to easily connect radio and other equipment from the battery.  The solar controller was obtained from Takealot at a very reasonable price tag. 

I personally think that the way Christi is using a salvage plastic drum and other bits and pieces is great.  Not only for nature (salvaging + recycling) but also for his own pocket not having to spend money on an expensive cabinet.
