Astronaut Space Walk: Live audio streamed on the ZS1-Link Network

Another first for the ZS-Link Network.  Live audio of an astronaut space walk was streamed on the ZS-Link Network yesterday afternoon. The audio quality was fairly good.  Audio of both astronauts, Nasa and astronauts inside the ISS were audible over the network.

NASA's Raja Chari and ESA's Matthias Maurer stepped outside the station Wednesday 23 March 2022 around 8:50 a.m. EDT (1250 GMT) (14h50 SAST) and conducted a spacewalk outside the International Space Station.

NASA astronaut Raja Chari and European Space Agency astronaut Matthias Maurer “install hoses on a Radiator Beam Valve Module that routes ammonia through the station’s heat-rejecting radiators to keep systems at the proper temperature. The crew members also install a power and data cable on the Columbus module’s Bartolomeo science platform, replace an external camera on the station’s truss, and conduct other upgrades to station hardware.”

It was Chari's second spacewalk and Maurer's first. The two arrived at the ISS in November for their first space mission.

The spacewalk comes eight days after Chari completed his first spacewalk with fellow astronaut Kayla Barron -- her second. The two spent 6 hours and 54 minutes preparing for the installation of new solar arrays on March 15.

Two of six new solar arrays have been unfurled to power the station's electronics over the past year.

We hope to bring you more space related broadcasts in future as this is one of the services we will provide to radio amateurs who has an interest in Space, Science and Technology.
