Upgrading of the 145.750 Mhz Stilbaai Repeater in the Southern Cape (Part 1)

The 145.750 Mhz (previously the 145.625 Mhz) repeater is one of the "older" repeaters in the Southern Cape and is situated in Stilbaai.  This repeater is known as the Stilbaai Repeater.  Johann ZS1AAC has indicated that this repeater needed some work as the coax cable currently in use dates back from the installation of the repeater.  As he puts it "Daai kakel moet al vrot wees!"  The tower needs to be lowered and maintenance work done.  A new Diamond antenna and LMR400 (coax donated by Viv ZS1VIV) will be installed.  The height of the tower will also be increased to extend the range of the repeater. Climbing towers nowadays is a rather risky business and therefor the tower will be lowered using a gin-pole, winch and cables.  Johann and Attie visited the site on the 11 December 2024.  To secure the gin-pole two brackets were installed into the concrete base of the tower.  Upgrading of the site will take place at a later stage once all the preparation work has been done.

Many thanks to Johann ZS1AAC, Attie, Viv ZS1VIV, Rassie ZS1RP, Dolf ZS1DRP and others for their assistance and donations towards this repeater.  Highly appreciated!!
